Through no fault of our own our container arrived early in Mauritius. We received an invoice from France Maritime Agency which we duly paid. Unfortunately we had to wait for our work permits to be processed before we were allowed access to the container - three to four weeks. It was only when we went to pick up the container we discovered that once your container has arrived you have seven days to return it empty, otherwise you will be charged for each additional day. As a consequence we were landed with a bill of 58,000 Rupees. We were practically blackmailed in to paying this as otherwise we would not be allowed to return the container which would incure further costs. They did reduce the bill by 25%. However we should have been told about the seven day time limit and how much the daily cost of the container was. We are getting our solicitors involved as this is blatant extortion.
